How it is calculated
Dimensions come from the ISO 216 table in mm. Inches = mm ÷ 25.4, and pixels = inches × DPI rounded to the nearest pixel.
Example
Inputs: Size = A4, Orientation = Portrait, Resolution = 300 DPI. Result: Size in millimetres: 210 × 297 mm; Width: 21 cm; Height: 29.7 cm.
Limits and caveats
- Dimensions are nominal; the standard allows small cutting tolerances of about 1.5 to 2 mm.
- Pixel counts are rounded to the nearest whole number.
Questions about this tool
What is A4 in centimetres?
A4 is 21 × 29.7 cm, which is 210 × 297 mm.
How many pixels is A4 at 300 DPI?
About 2480 × 3508 pixels, the usual target for sharp printing.
How do A3 and A4 relate?
Each size is half the one before it: fold A3 once and you get A4, and the ratio stays 1 to the square root of 2.
