Image cropper

Mark the crop area by dragging the box and its handles or by typing its position and size in pixels, check the preview, then download the crop at original resolution. It is a quick way to crop an image to a square for a profile or a product listing, or to trim unwanted edges.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image, or drop it on the box.
  2. Pick a ratio: free, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16, or a custom ratio you type.
  3. Drag the box to move it and drag the handles to resize it, or type X, Y, width and height in pixels. With a keyboard, focus the box and move it with the arrow keys.
  4. Check the preview and the output dimensions, choose the format, and download the cropped image.

Example

A 1600×1200 photo with the 1:1 ratio: the box starts as the largest centered square, X = 200, Y = 0, width 1200, height 1200, and the downloaded file is exactly 1200×1200 px.

Typing a width of 600 while 1:1 is selected sets the height to 600, and the output is 600×600.

Limits and caveats

  • The crop is taken from the original pixels; what you see on screen is only a scaled preview. All values are whole pixels, so a fixed ratio can be off by one pixel because of rounding.
  • The image is redrawn through Canvas, so EXIF data such as location and camera model is dropped after the orientation is applied.
  • JPEG and WebP are saved at quality 92, which means a slight lossy re-compression. Choose PNG to keep the cropped pixels without any loss.
  • JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
  • Tested limits: files up to 40 MB and 50 megapixels. One image at a time; no rotation and no non-rectangular crops.

Questions about this tool

Does cropping reduce the resolution?

Pixels are not rescaled: the cropped area keeps its dimensions from the original image. With PNG the pixels stay as they are; with JPEG or WebP they are re-compressed at quality 92.

How do I crop without a mouse?

Type X, Y, width and height in the fields, or Tab to the crop box and move it with the arrow keys by 1 px, or by 10 px with Shift.

Which ratio suits product photos?

Many stores use square 1:1 images and 4:5 is common for social posts, but requirements differ between platforms. Check yours, then pick the ratio or type a custom one.

How do I crop an image to exact pixel dimensions?

Type the width and height in pixels, set the position with X and Y or by dragging the box, and the download has exactly those dimensions. With a fixed ratio the second side follows the first, so choose the “Free” ratio when you want to set width and height independently.

How do I crop an image into a square?

Pick the 1:1 ratio: the box starts as the largest centered square, which you can move to the part you want before downloading. A 1600×1200 photo gives a 1200×1200 px square. Crops are always rectangular; circles and other shapes are not offered.
