Split PDF

Type the pages you need and choose the output: one file, one file per range, or one file per page. When there is more than one output file they are packed into a single ZIP. Use it to split a PDF into smaller files for email, or to pull out just the pages you need.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF file. Its page count appears once it is open.
  2. Pick a split mode: “Extract to one PDF”, “One PDF per range” or “Every page separately”.
  3. Type ranges separated by commas, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. The tool shows how many files and pages will be produced before you download.
  4. Press “Split and download”. You get one PDF, or a ZIP when there is more than one output file.

Example

A 10-page file with the range 1-3, 5, 8-10: “Extract to one PDF” gives one 7-page PDF (pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10). “One PDF per range” gives a ZIP with 3 files: pages 1-3, page 5 and pages 8-10. “Every page separately” gives a ZIP with 10 files.

Limits and caveats

  • Tested limits: one file up to 100 MB and 500 pages. Separating every page of a large file takes more time and memory, especially on phones.
  • In “Extract to one PDF” pages are written in ascending order and duplicates are dropped, so 5, 1-3 gives pages 1, 2, 3, 5. To change page order use the Reorder PDF pages tool.
  • Password-protected or encrypted files are refused. The tool does not bypass protection.
  • Pages are copied with their size, rotation and annotations, but outlines (bookmarks), interactive form fields and document metadata are not carried into the output files.
  • Resources shared between pages, such as fonts, are copied into every output file, so the outputs together can be larger than the original.
  • A digital signature in the original file is not valid in the output files.

Questions about this tool

How do I write page ranges?

Use numbers, commas and hyphens, such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. Arabic-Indic digits and the Arabic comma are accepted too. If a number is outside the page count you get an error message and nothing is downloaded.

When do I get a ZIP file?

When the split produces more than one PDF: “One PDF per range” with two or more ranges, or “Every page separately”. A single output is downloaded directly as a PDF.

Is my original file changed?

No. The tool reads the file and creates new files; the original stays on your device as it is.

How do I split a PDF into multiple files?

Choose the file, pick “One PDF per range” and type ranges such as 1-3, 4-6, or pick “Every page separately”, then press “Split and download”. You get separate PDF files packed in one ZIP, and your original stays as it is.

How do I extract a single page from a PDF?

Pick “Extract to one PDF”, type just the page number, such as 5, and press “Split and download” to get a PDF with that page alone. You can also type several pages, such as 2, 7, to collect them into one file.
