PDF watermark

Type text such as “CONFIDENTIAL” or upload a logo, set the opacity, placement and angle, and apply it to every page or to a range you choose. Arabic is drawn with joined letters in the right direction. Add a watermark to a PDF, such as “DRAFT” or your company name, before you share a quote or a contract.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF file.
  2. Choose the kind of mark: text or an image (a logo).
  3. Set the size, color, opacity, angle and placement (centred, a corner, or a diagonal repeat covering the page).
  4. Choose which pages get the mark, then press “Add watermark”.
  5. Check the preview, then download the file. Your original file stays as it is.

Example

A three-page file with the text “CONFIDENTIAL” at size 60, 25% opacity and a 45° angle in the middle of the page, with the range 1-2: pages 1 and 2 get one slanted mark in the centre and page 3 is left completely unchanged.

Limits and caveats

  • A watermark is a visual mark, not protection. It is drawn over the page content, and anyone with PDF editing software can remove or crop it. Do not use it to stop copying or printing.
  • Text is drawn with IBM Plex Sans Arabic, embedded in the file, which covers Arabic and Latin. Any character the font lacks (emoji, Chinese…) is replaced by “?” and the tool tells you how many. Arabic diacritics may sit slightly off.
  • The position is worked out on the page as the reader sees it, honoring page rotation (/Rotate) and the crop box, so the mark stays upright on rotated pages too.
  • PNG images keep their transparency, which is multiplied by the opacity you choose. WebP cannot go into a PDF and is converted to PNG in the browser.
  • Tested limits: one file up to 100 MB and 500 pages, text up to 60 characters, font size 6 to 200 pt, opacity 5% to 100%, and image width 5% to 100% of the page width.
  • A text mark is real text inside the file: it can be selected and searched. As with any PDF, copying Arabic out of it can paste the letters in a different order, but what is displayed and printed is correct.
  • Password-protected or encrypted files are refused; the tool does not bypass protection. Saving a digitally signed file again invalidates its signature.

Questions about this tool

Does a watermark stop people copying the file?

No. It is a visible layer on top of the page, not encryption and not a permission setting. Anyone with a PDF editor can take it off. Its purpose is to show the reader that a copy is a draft, confidential, or meant for one particular recipient.

How do I cover the whole page with a repeating mark?

Choose the placement “Tiled repeat” and set the distance between copies in millimetres. With a 45° angle you get the usual diagonal pattern. Every copy is drawn at the same opacity.

Why does the mark stay upright on a rotated page?

Because the tool works out the position and the angle in the coordinates of the page as it is displayed, then converts them to file coordinates using the page’s /Rotate value. Drawing straight into file coordinates would leave the mark sideways on those pages.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF?

Choose the PDF, type the watermark text or upload a logo, set the opacity, position and angle, then press “Add watermark” and download the file. You can apply it to every page or only to a range such as 1-2.

Can I use my company logo as a PDF watermark?

Yes. Choose the image type, upload the logo as PNG, JPEG or WebP and set its width as a share of the page width. A PNG logo keeps its transparent background, combined with the opacity you choose.
