Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Type the value in the bits box.
- Read the result in megabytes as you type, and pick the precision you need.
- Swap the direction to convert back, or copy the result.
How it is calculated
MB = bit × 1.25e-7
Multiply the value in bits by 1.25e-7 to get megabytes.
Example
To convert 25 bit to megabytes: 25 × 1.25e-7 = 0.000003125 MB.
Conversion table
| Bits (bit) | Megabytes (MB) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1.25e-7 |
| 2 | 2.5e-7 |
| 3 | 3.75e-7 |
| 5 | 6.25e-7 |
| 10 | 0.00000125 |
| 20 | 0.0000025 |
| 25 | 0.000003125 |
| 50 | 0.00000625 |
| 100 | 0.0000125 |
| 250 | 0.00003125 |
| 500 | 0.0000625 |
| 1,000 | 0.000125 |
About the units
- Bit
- The smallest unit of digital information, holding one of two values, 0 or 1. Eight bits make exactly one byte.
- Megabyte
- A decimal unit equal to exactly 1,000,000 bytes (10^6), different from the binary mebibyte of 1,048,576 bytes.
Limits and caveats
- Results are rounded for display and computed with the browser's floating point precision (about 15 significant digits).
- Both unit factors are exact by their official definitions.
Questions about this tool
How many megabytes are in one bit?
1 bit = 1.25e-7 MB exactly.
How do I convert bits to megabytes?
Use MB = bit × 1.25e-7. For example, 25 bit = 0.000003125 MB.
How many bits are in one megabyte?
1 MB = 8,000,000 bit.
Why does a 1 TB drive show about 931 GB on my computer?
Drive makers count 1 TB as 10^12 bytes, while Windows divides by 2^30 and labels the result GB even though it is really GiB. So 10^12 ÷ 1,073,741,824 gives about 931.32, and no space is missing.
What is the difference between a kilobyte and a kibibyte?
A kilobyte (kB) is a decimal unit of 1000 bytes and a kibibyte (KiB) is a binary unit of 1024 bytes. The same split applies to mega and mebi, giga and gibi, and the gap grows at each step.
