If I crop a customer's name and phone number out of an order screenshot, can anyone recover the part I cut?

No, not when you crop with the image cropper. The file you download is a new image drawn only from the pixels inside the crop box, so the cut area is never stored in it, EXIF data is dropped, and the image never leaves your browser. But cropping cannot protect anything that is still inside the box, so check the preview before you post.

What happens to the part you cut

On download, the Image cropper creates a new canvas exactly the size of the box, draws into it the pixels from inside the box in the original image, and saves only that canvas. Nothing outside the box enters the new file in any form: no hidden layer and no backup copy to undo back to.

Worked example

An order screenshot measuring 1170 × 2532, with the customer's name and number at the top, down to Y = 320.

With the 'Free' ratio you type Y = 320, height 1400, width 1170 and X = 0.

The output is 1170 × 1400 and starts just below the customer's details.

What cropping does not protect you from

  • Everything left inside the box is shown as is. If an order number or a district name sits in the middle of the screenshot, cropping only removes it if you also cut what surrounds it; the tool keeps one rectangle and cannot blur areas inside it.
  • The original on your phone is unchanged. Post the cropped file you downloaded, not the screenshot from your gallery.
  • The downloaded file name starts with the original file name, with the crop size added. If you named the screenshot after the customer, rename the file before sending it.
  • The box moves in the original image's pixels, and the preview is scaled down. A line of small text can sit at the edge without you noticing it in the preview.

The safe way to do it

  1. Open the screenshot in the cropper and leave the ratio on 'Free'.
  2. Drag the top edge of the box below the customer's details, or type a Y value so the edge lands exactly.
  3. Drag the bottom edge above anything else you do not want to publish, such as the address or payment method.
  4. Check the preview, download, then open the downloaded file itself zoomed in and inspect its edges.
  5. Rename the file if needed, then post it.

Privacy while you crop

Cropping runs inside your browser on your own device, so the screenshot is not uploaded to any server, which matters because the original holds the customer's full details. Because the image is redrawn, EXIF data such as location and device model is dropped if present. Screenshots rarely carry a location, but camera photos can, and if you want to see what a photo contains before posting it, inspect it with the Image metadata inspector and remover tool.

Common questions

Can I blur a number in the middle instead of cropping it?

No. The cropper keeps a single rectangle and does not blur areas inside it. If the number is in the middle, change the crop or take a new screenshot that leaves it out.

Does the tool keep a copy of my image?

No. The image is processed in your browser's memory only and is gone when you close the page.

Can the crop be undone in the downloaded file?

No. The new file holds only what was inside the box. Your original stays on your device.
