I want to remove repeated sentences from a WhatsApp broadcast message but keep the blank lines between paragraphs; which setting do I pick?
Under 'Empty lines', choose 'Keep all empty lines'. Repeated sentences are removed and no blank line is touched, so your paragraphs stay apart as you wrote them. The default setting treats a blank line like any other line: the first stays and later ones go, so the following paragraphs run into each other.
How sentences end up repeated in one message
A broadcast gets assembled from pieces: a paragraph about today's deal copied from yesterday's message, a delivery paragraph from another post, a closing line you always add. Then 'Today only' or '20% off' appears twice in different places. Removing repeats by hand from a long message is possible, but pasting it in and picking the right setting is quicker.
Example: three paragraphs
The message has seven lines: 'Today only' then '20% off', a blank line, 'Free delivery' then 'Today only' again, a blank line, 'Cash on delivery'.
With the default 'Like any line': 7 input lines, 5 kept, 2 removed, one of them blank. The second and third paragraphs are glued together: 'Free delivery' followed straight by 'Cash on delivery'.
With 'Keep all empty lines': 7 input lines, 6 kept, 1 removed. Only the second 'Today only' went, and all three paragraphs stay separate.
Steps
- Copy the full message text and paste it into the Duplicate-line remover.
- Under 'Empty lines', choose 'Keep all empty lines'.
- Check the result, then copy it and paste it into WhatsApp Business.
A paragraph whose every line repeats
One case needs a final look. If a whole paragraph is made of sentences already used, its lines are removed and the blank line before it stays. We tried a message with the paragraphs 'Today only' and '20% off', then 'Today only' and 'Free delivery', then '20% off' on its own. With blank lines kept, 5 of 7 lines stayed, and the last one was a blank line with nothing after it, because the whole final paragraph was a repeat. Delete that last blank line before sending if you want the message to end cleanly.
Limits of removing repeats from prose
- The tool works line by line: two sentences on one line are one unit, and a sentence repeated inside a line is not detected.
- Matching is literal: 'Today only!' and 'Today only' are different lines.
- If some lines have a trailing space, turn on ignoring spaces at both ends, or clean the text first with the Whitespace cleaner.
- Emoji are part of the line, so a line ending in an emoji differs from the same line without it.
And remember that removing repeats does not rewrite the message. If the repeated sentence fits better in its second spot, move it by hand afterwards, because the tool always keeps the first occurrence.
