Are my photos sent to a server when I resize them here?
No. The image is opened, resized and encoded inside your browser on your own device using Canvas, and nothing is uploaded. The output is a freshly drawn image, so EXIF data such as location and camera model is not carried into it, after the correct orientation has been applied.
What happens to your photo, step by step
- When you choose the photo, the browser reads it straight from your device and decodes it in memory.
- It is drawn onto a canvas inside the page at the dimensions you typed, with bands or cropping according to the fit mode.
- The browser turns that canvas into a JPEG, PNG or WebP file, and the tool shows the preview and size.
- The download button saves the file from browser memory straight to your device.
At no point does the file leave your device. When you close the page or press reset, the image is released from memory, and no copy is kept.
Check it yourself
You do not have to take our word for it. Open the Image resizer and choose a photo, then disconnect your device from the internet and change the width or the fit mode. The preview and size still update and the download still works, because all the work happens on your device. A tool that uploaded images to a server would stop the moment the connection dropped.
The hidden data in a photo
A phone photo usually carries information you cannot see: the coordinates where it was taken, the phone model and the date. That data can reveal your home address if you photograph products there. Because the tool redraws the image rather than copying it, this data is not carried into the output. Before dropping it, though, the tool reads the orientation and applies it, so a portrait phone shot does not end up on its side.
If you want to see what your original carried before you publish it, open it in the Image metadata inspector and remover tool. And remember that the original on your device still holds that data, so publish the output, not the original.
The limits of what we promise
- The site may count page visits and clicks according to its privacy settings and your consent, but the image file itself is never sent.
- Once downloaded, the file is in your hands: send it through a chat or upload it to a store, and that platform's terms apply.
- Processing on your device means speed and limits depend on your device too.
Common questions
Is it safe for ID photos or documents?
The photo does not leave your device while it is resized. Be careful about where you send the resulting copy afterwards.
Does the photo stay in the browser after I close the page?
No. It is released from memory when you close the page or reset, and it is not saved in the site's history.
