How do I resize a banner for my Salla storefront without stretching it?
Check the banner size your Salla theme recommends, type it into the tool with the ratio lock off, and choose 'Fill and crop' so nothing stretches. Know in advance that a wide banner keeps only a thin horizontal strip of an ordinary photo, so choose a photo with space around the product, or crop the strip you want yourself first.
Why banners usually end up stretched
Banners are far wider than the photos we take. Drop an ordinary photo into a banner slot and let the theme or an editing app force it to size, and everything spreads sideways: the product looks flattened and faces look wide. The fix is not to force a picture into a ratio that is not its own, but to decide which part of it stays.
How much of the photo actually survives
A 4000 × 3000 photo and a banner of, say, 1920 × 600, with 'Fill and crop'.
The tool keeps only a centered strip of 4000 × 1250, starting 875 px from the top.
More than half the photo's height is removed: 875 px at the top and 875 px at the bottom.
With 'Fit inside' the photo becomes 800 × 600 in the middle of the banner, with a 560 px band on each side.
The 1920 × 600 size is only an illustration; banner sizes vary between themes. The principle is what matters: the wider the banner relative to its height, the thinner the strip that is left.
Which photos work as banners
- A wide shot with the product in the middle and empty space all around it.
- A group shot of several products lined up side by side.
- A design made for the banner at the right ratio from the start, which only needs resizing.
A close-up square product photo rarely works, because the middle strip will cut off its top and bottom.
The steps
- Find the banner size in your theme settings or its help page on Salla.
- Open the Image resizer, choose the photo, untick the ratio lock and type the width and height.
- Choose 'Fill and crop' and read the note showing the dimensions of the area used from the original.
- If the middle strip is not what you want, open the Image cropper, enter the same ratio, move the frame to the part you want, then bring the result back to the resizer.
- Save as JPEG and check the size before uploading.
Mind the text inside the banner
Some themes show a banner differently on phones and may trim its sides to fill a narrow screen. Put the key message and the offer price in the middle rather than at the edges, and check your storefront on your own phone after uploading.
Common questions
Does the tool know Salla theme sizes?
No. Its common sizes are general starting points, and none of them is an official banner size for any platform. Type the numbers your theme gives.
My photo is smaller than the banner. Should I enlarge it?
You can, but the tool will warn you, because enlarging adds no detail and the picture may look soft. A larger original is the better fix.
