My supplier photos all have different shapes and my Salla store grid looks uneven. How do I make them consistent?

Fix the ratio first, then the size. Crop every photo to one ratio for the whole catalog, such as a 1:1 square, move the box so the product sits in a similar spot each time, then resize all the crops to one pixel size. The product cards on your store page then line up evenly.

Why the grid looks messy

One supplier sends a landscape photo, another a tall phone shot, a third a square with the product tiny in one corner. Store themes show these in cards of one size, so either the theme crops them its own way and part of the product disappears, or different gaps appear around each photo. Either way the page looks untidy.

The fix is to decide the shape of each photo yourself before uploading, rather than letting the theme decide. Themes differ in how they display images, so check your Salla or Zid theme settings for the ratio its cards use. A 1:1 square is a common choice, but it is not an official rule.

Step one: crop every photo to the same ratio

  1. Open the first photo in the Image cropper and pick the ratio you chose, such as 1:1.
  2. The box starts as the largest square in the middle of the photo. Drag it until the product is centered in it.
  3. If the product is small in the frame, shrink the box from its corner handles so the product fills more of it.
  4. Download, then open the next photo and repeat.

The cropper handles one image at a time, so gather the catalog photos in one folder and work through them in order.

Worked example

A 1500 × 1000 landscape photo: the largest square is 1000 × 1000, starting at X = 250.

A 3024 × 4032 portrait phone photo: the largest square is 3024 × 3024, starting at Y = 504.

A 1200 × 1600 portrait photo: the largest square is 1200 × 1200, starting at Y = 200.

Step two: one pixel size

After cropping every photo is square, but the sizes differ: 1000, 3024 and 1200. Open each cropped photo in the Image resizer and type the same size for all of them, such as 1000 × 1000. Larger photos shrink without trouble; a photo smaller than the target would be enlarged and look softer, and the tool warns you when that happens.

Details that make the grid look right

  • Let the product fill a similar share of each photo. A product filling its square next to a small product in a sea of background breaks the pattern even when the sizes match.
  • Leave a small margin around the product, since some themes add rounded corners or a border.
  • Use one format for everything. JPEG suits product photos, and if files are heavy, compress them after resizing.
  • Keep the originals in a separate folder: your theme may change later and need another ratio.

Common questions

What is the official product image size for Salla and Zid?

We do not quote an official number, because platforms and themes change their guidance. Check your platform's help center and theme settings, then type the ratio and size you need into the two tools.

Can I crop several photos in one go?

No. The cropper handles one image at a time, because the product's position differs from photo to photo and needs your judgment.

One product sits on a colored background and the rest on white. What can I do?

Cropping does not change the background. A tighter crop around the product shows less of it, but matching backgrounds takes a reshoot or an editing app.
