Why is the writing on my product backwards in a photo I took with the front camera?

Because the front camera shows you a mirror image, and some phones and camera apps save it that way too, so the perfume name or the logo on the bag comes out reversed left to right. No rotation will fix that, whatever angle you try. The fix is 'Flip horizontally': turn it on, leave the angle at 0, and the writing reads the way it does on the real product.

Why rotating does not work

A mirrored photo is not turned, it is reflected. Rotating moves the whole picture around its center, like turning a sheet of paper on a desk, so mirrored text stays mirrored, just upside down or tilted. What puts the letters back is reversing left and right, which is exactly what a horizontal flip does.

How to do it

  1. Open the Image rotator and flipper tool and choose the product photo.
  2. Tick 'Flip horizontally (mirror left/right)' and leave the angle at 0.
  3. Read the text in the preview: it should look exactly as it does on the product.
  4. Choose PNG under 'Save as' if you want no quality loss at all, or keep the original format, then download.

As soon as you tick the flip, the download button becomes available, because the tool sees a real change. If you tick both flips and also turn 180 degrees, they cancel each other out and the photo is back to where it started, so the tool tells you nothing has changed.

What if the photo is mirrored and sideways too?

The tool applies the flip first, then the rotation. You do not need to think about the order: tick the horizontal flip, then use the 90 degree buttons until the photo stands upright and the text reads correctly. The preview shows the final result exactly as it will be saved.

Does flipping affect quality?

  • A flip moves the pixels as they are to the opposite side, with no smoothing or recalculation, so the photo does not get softer.
  • Saved as PNG, the result has no loss at all. JPEG and WebP are saved at quality 92, a slight loss that is rarely noticeable.
  • Hidden data such as location and phone model is dropped from the result, because the photo is redrawn.

Prevent it next time

Some phones have a camera setting that controls whether front camera photos are saved mirrored. Look for it in your camera settings, or shoot products with the rear camera, which does not mirror and usually has the better sensor anyway. Before posting, read any text in the photo out loud: if you stumble over it, it may be reversed.

Common questions

Is a horizontal flip the same as rotating 180 degrees?

No. A 180 degree turn puts the photo upside down; a horizontal flip only swaps left and right.

Can I flip several photos at once?

No, the tool handles one image at a time.

What is the downloaded file called?

The original name with -flipped added if you did not rotate, or -rotated if you did.
