Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter cells copied from excel, column alignment, pad columns to equal width and trim spaces around each cell.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
The pasted text is split at tabs, empty trailing rows and columns are dropped, then each row is written between | marks with a --- row after the header; a | inside a cell becomes \|.
Example
Inputs: Column alignment = Default, Pad columns to equal width = yes, Trim spaces around each cell = yes. Result: Markdown table: | product | price | qty | | ------- | ----- | --- | | Tea | 12.5 | 3 | | Coffee | 18 | 2 | | Dates | 30 | 1 |; Rows: 4; Columns: 3.
product price qty Tea 12.5 3 Coffee 18 2 Dates 30 1
| product | price | qty | | ------- | ----- | --- | | Tea | 12.5 | 3 | | Coffee | 18 | 2 | | Dates | 30 | 1 |
Limits and caveats
- Merged Excel cells arrive as one cell followed by empty cells.
- Formatting such as colors and bold is not carried over, only the visible text.
Questions about this tool
Does it work with Google Sheets and Numbers?
Yes. They all copy cells as tab-separated text.
Will it work in Notion?
Yes. Paste the output into Notion and it becomes a table, as it does on GitHub and GitLab.
What happens to multi-line cells?
Line breaks become <br> inside the cell so the table does not break.
