Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter hex color.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
R' = 255 − R, G' = 255 − G, B' = 255 − B; alpha stays unchanged.
Example
Inputs: HEX color = #FF8000. Result: Inverted color: #007FFF.
#FF8000
#007FFF
Limits and caveats
- Inversion works on sRGB values as-is, so mid gray stays close to itself and gives poor contrast.
Questions about this tool
Is the inverted color the complementary color?
Not always. Inversion subtracts channels from 255, while the complement rotates hue by 180 degrees and keeps lightness.
What is the inverse of gray #808080?
#7F7F7F, almost the same color, so inversion is no good for contrast against gray.
Does this match the CSS invert() filter?
Yes. invert(100%) subtracts each channel from its maximum in the same way.
