Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter third known value, initial velocity u, acceleration a, time t and displacement s.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
v = u + a t, s = u t + ½ a t², v² = u² + 2 a s, average velocity = (u + v) ÷ 2.
Example
Inputs: Third known value = Time is known, Initial velocity u = 0 m/s, Acceleration a = 2 m/s², Time t = 5 s, Displacement s = 25 m. Result: Final velocity: 10 m/s; Displacement: 25 m; Average velocity: 5 m/s.
Limits and caveats
- Valid only when acceleration stays constant throughout.
- Assumes straight-line motion; a negative sign means the opposite direction.
Questions about this tool
What are the SUVAT equations?
The constant-acceleration equations linking displacement s, initial velocity u, final velocity v, acceleration a and time t.
How do I find a car stopping distance?
Use v² = u² + 2as with v = 0, so distance = u² ÷ (2 × deceleration).
Why does it say the object stops first?
With negative acceleration the object may run out of speed before covering the distance, so the equation has no real solution.
