Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter lightness l*, chroma c* and hue angle h.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

a = C cos(h), b = C sin(h), and L stays the same.

Example

Inputs: Lightness L* = 60, Chroma C* = 50, Hue angle h = 120 °. Result: Lab values: L* 60, a* -25, b* 43.3; Lightness L*: 60; a* (green to red): -25.

Limits and caveats

  • The result keeps the same reference white as the LCH values you entered.

Questions about this tool

Is 360° the same as 0°?

Yes, both angles give the same a* and b*.

What happens when chroma is zero?

a* and b* become zero and the color is a neutral gray whatever the angle.

Can the result be impossible to display?

Yes, Lab is larger than sRGB. Use Lab to HEX to check whether the color fits the gamut.
