How to use it
- Enter resolution, aspect ratio and resolution.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Width px = √(MP × 1,000,000 × ratio width ÷ ratio height), height = width × ratio height ÷ ratio width. Print size = pixels ÷ DPI.
Example
Inputs: Resolution = 24 MP, Aspect ratio = 3:2, Resolution = 300 DPI. Result: Print size: 50.8 × 33.87 cm; Width in pixels: 6,000 px; Height in pixels: 4,000 px.
Limits and caveats
- Real cameras give close but not identical dimensions; a 24 MP camera may output 6000 × 4000 or 6024 × 4016.
Questions about this tool
How big can I print a 12 MP photo?
At 4:3 it is 4000 × 3000 pixels, about 33.9 × 25.4 cm at 300 DPI.
Does a 4x6 print need a high resolution camera?
No, about 2.2 MP is enough at 300 DPI, and any modern phone goes well past that.
What ratio do phone photos use?
Most phone cameras shoot 4:3, while most DSLR and mirrorless cameras shoot 3:2.
