How it is calculated
An EU size becomes US by subtracting 10. Then S = 34 to 36, M = 38 to 40, L = 42 to 44, XL = 46 to 48, XXL = 50 to 52, 3XL = 54 to 56. A number between two ranges takes the larger letter.

Inputs: Jacket size = 52, Size system = EU or Italian. Result: Letter size: L; US and UK size: 42; EU and Italian size: 52.
Limits and caveats
- Casual jackets sold in letters are often cut roomier than suits, so a smaller letter may fit.
- The chart is a common US one and varies by brand.
