How it is calculated
Neck in inches = cm ÷ 2.54. Collar size = neck + allowance, rounded up to the next half inch. EU size = collar × 2.54 to the nearest cm.
Example
Inputs: Neck measurement = 15, Unit = in, Comfort allowance = 0.5 in. Result: Collar size: 15.5 in; EU collar size: 39 cm; Letter size: M.
Limits and caveats
- Half an inch of allowance is a common rule, not a standard; change it if you measured loosely or like a snug collar.
- Slim-fit shirts may need a collar half a size larger.
Questions about this tool
How do I measure my neck for a shirt?
Wrap the tape around the neck where the collar sits, just below the Adam's apple, without pulling tight.
Why add half an inch?
It leaves room for a finger when the top button is closed. Set it to 0 if you measured with a loose tape.
My neck is 38 cm, what shirt size am I?
38 cm is 14.96 in; with half an inch of allowance the size is 15.5, or EU 39.
