SHA-512 hash generator
Computes SHA-512, the longest SHA-2 digest in FIPS 180-4, used for file checksums and inside signature schemes such as Ed25519.

Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter text or bytes and input type.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
The UTF-8 bytes are padded into 1024-bit blocks; each block runs 80 rounds over eight 64-bit registers, giving 512 bits.
Example
Inputs: Input type = Text (UTF-8). Result: SHA-512 digest (hex): ddaf35a193617abacc417349ae20413112e6fa4e89a97ea20a9eeee64b55d39a2192992a274fc1a836ba3c23a3feebbd454d4423643ce80e2a9ac94fa54ca49f; Input size: 3 bytes; Digest length: 512 bits.

Limits and caveats
- The digest covers the text exactly as typed: a trailing space or newline changes it completely, and line breaks count as LF.
- Very long text (several megabytes) can take seconds because 64-bit words are emulated in the browser.
Questions about this tool
Is SHA-512 stronger than SHA-256?
Its longer output gives a larger theoretical margin, but both are secure today. Use whatever the system you work with expects.
How long is a SHA-512 hash?
64 bytes, which is 128 hex characters or 88 Base64 characters including the two padding signs.
Can I hash binary bytes?
Yes, choose Hex bytes and paste the bytes such as 00ff10. Spaces and colons are ignored.
