Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter supply type, power, voltage and power factor (ac).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
DC: I = P ÷ V. Single-phase: I = P ÷ (V × PF). Three-phase: I = P ÷ (√3 × V × PF) with V the line voltage.
Example
Inputs: Supply type = AC single-phase, Power = 2,000 W, Voltage = 230 V, Power factor (AC) = 1. Result: Current: 8.696 A; Apparent power: 2,000 VA.
Limits and caveats
- This is running current; motor starting current can be several times higher.
- For three-phase, enter the line-to-line voltage.
- Breaker and cable choice follows your local wiring code, not this number alone.
Questions about this tool
How many amps does a 2000 W device draw at 230 V?
About 8.7 A with a power factor of 1, as for a heater. A lower power factor means more current.
What is the mains voltage in the Gulf?
In most Gulf countries it is 230 or 240 V single-phase and 400 or 415 V between phases. Check with your utility or the building panel.
Why do I need the power factor?
Inductive loads such as motors draw more current than real power divided by voltage. Ignoring it understates the current.
