How it is calculated

The amount is split into main and minor units: 100 for the Saudi riyal, UAE dirham, Qatari riyal, Egyptian pound, dollar and euro; 1000 for the Kuwaiti and Bahraini dinar and the Omani rial. Each part is spelled with singular or plural.

Example

Inputs: Amount = 1250.50, Currency = Saudi riyal (SAR). Result: Amount in words: One thousand two hundred fifty Saudi riyals and fifty halalas; Invoice style: One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty Saudi Riyals And Fifty Halalas Only; Fraction style: One thousand two hundred fifty and 50/100 Saudi riyals.

Limits and caveats

  • Kuwaiti and Bahraini dinars and the Omani rial take 3 decimals; the others take 2.
  • This tool does not convert between currencies; it only spells the amount.

Questions about this tool

Why does the Kuwaiti dinar take 3 decimals?

One Kuwaiti dinar is 1000 fils. The Bahraini dinar is the same, and the Omani rial is 1000 baisa.

What is invoice style?

Each word starts with a capital and the line ends with Only, a common Gulf invoice habit that stops anything being added.

Halala or halalas?

Halala for one and halalas for any other count. Fils and baisa stay the same in singular and plural.
