Questions about this tool
How do I convert quaternary to decimal by hand?
Multiply each digit by 4 raised to its position, starting at position 0 on the right, then add the results. For example 3210 in base 4 equals 228.
Where is base 4 used?
The four DNA bases A, C, G and T are sometimes coded as digits 0 to 3, which turns a sequence into a base 4 number. It also appears in radio schemes such as QPSK that send two bits per symbol.
Which symbols are allowed in base 4?
The digits 0 to 3; spaces are ignored. Any other symbol triggers a message that names it.
