How do I put my store logo in the middle of a QR code without breaking it?
The tool does not place logos inside codes, so let us be clear on that first. The right way is to generate the code at error correction level H, which survives damage to about 30% of the symbol, download it as SVG, place a small logo in the centre with your design software, and scan it with several phones before printing.
Why the code still works with a logo on it
A logo in the middle really does wipe out some modules, so the phone reads incomplete data. What saves it is error correction: spare data that lets the reader rebuild what is missing. At level H that capacity is about 30% according to the QR specification, but it covers all damage together, and any later scratch or fading eats into the same budget. So the logo should be well below that limit.
The steps
- Open the QR code generator and paste your full store link; the shorter the link, the better.
- Set the error correction level to H. A link like https://example.com takes 19 bytes of the 1,273 available at that level and gives a symbol 29 modules wide.
- Download SVG, or a large PNG such as 2048 pixels, the maximum the tool allows.
- Prepare the logo on a white or transparent background, and shrink it if needed with the Image resizer.
- Open the code in your design software and centre the logo exactly, covering only a small area in the middle.
Where never to put the logo
- Over the three large squares in the corners. Readers use them to find the code and work out its orientation.
- On the blank frame around the code. That quiet zone separates the code from the rest of your design.
- In a color close to the modules without a clear border, because the reader may take it for part of the pattern.
Once it is placed, scan the final version with an iPhone and an Android phone from different distances, and check that the text you get matches the 'What is stored inside the code' box in the tool. If either phone hesitates, shrink the logo; one lucky scan is not enough.
Common questions
Can I add a logo at level M?
M survives only about 15%, which leaves a very thin margin. The tool itself suggests H when a logo goes on top, and with a short link the extra density is small.
Can the tool change the module shape or make it round?
No. It draws a standard square-module code and lets you set the two colors, the size and the margin only.
