I sell a PDF e-book on my Salla store; how do I stamp each buyer's name on the pages before sending it?

For each order, open the book in the watermark tool, type a short line such as 'Order 10482 | Sara A.', pick a bottom corner and a light opacity, apply it to every page, and send the resulting copy to the buyer. Your master file stays clean for the next order. This is a manual step per order; the tool does not connect to your store.

What the mark actually achieves

A copy carrying the buyer's name and order number is traceable. If you find your book posted in a group or channel, the name on the pages tells you where it came from. Many buyers also think twice before passing on a file with their own name on it, so it encourages respect more than it enforces anything.

Be realistic, though: a watermark is not a lock. Anyone with PDF editing software can delete it or crop the strip that carries it. It is a deterrent and a way to trace, not technical protection against copying.

Suggested settings for each order

  1. Open PDF watermark and choose your master copy of the book.
  2. Choose Text and type the name and order number, such as 'Order 10482 | Sara A.'. The limit is 60 characters; this example is only 21.
  3. Keep the size small, 12 to 16 points, and remove the slant by typing 0 as the angle.
  4. Choose Bottom right or Bottom left, with a 15 mm margin so the line stays clear of the edge.
  5. Set the opacity between 30% and 50% with a grey colour, and leave the pages field empty so every page gets the mark.
  6. Press Add watermark, check the preview, download the copy and send it the way you normally deliver orders.

How much space the mark takes

At 14 points in bold, a line like 'Order 10482 | Sara A.' is about 141 points wide, under a quarter of an A4 page's 595.28 points. With a 15 mm margin at the bottom right, its centre sits about 482 points from the left and 47 points up. A line that size is clearly visible without crowding the book's text.

Things worth thinking through

  • Stamp the minimum: a first name and order number are enough to trace a copy. Do not put a buyer's phone number or email on pages that may be printed or photographed.
  • If your store sends the file automatically after payment, you will need to switch this product to manual delivery, because the tool does not connect to your store or run on its own.
  • The mark is real text inside the file, so it shows up in search and copy. That does no harm, but it means the buyer can see it in any reader.
  • If your book is password-protected, the tool refuses it. Add the mark first and the protection afterwards if you want both.

Common questions

Can I add a second, large mark in the centre too?

Yes. Run the tool again on the resulting file with different settings. Each run adds its mark on top of what is already there.

Do Arabic names come out correctly?

Yes. Arabic is drawn with joined letters in the right direction, and it can be mixed with numbers and English on the same line.
