How do I convert a transparent WebP logo to PNG and keep the transparency?

Choose PNG as the target and that is all. PNG stores transparency and is lossless, so the logo comes out with the same see-through areas and no background color, and the background color option does not even appear because it is not needed. The one thing that usually changes is the size: the PNG is larger than the WebP.

When a PNG copy of your logo is needed

Sometimes the logo arrives from a designer, or from your old website, as a WebP, and then you find that your slide software, your invoice template or your social post app will not take it. PNG is the format these programs accept almost everywhere together with transparency, which is why designers, print shops and ad platforms ask for it when a logo has to sit on a colored background.

Why PNG keeps transparency and JPEG does not

Every pixel of a transparent logo carries a fourth value, besides its three colors, that says how visible it is. JPEG has nowhere to store that value, so the tool has to paint the transparent areas with a color. PNG and WebP both store it. So when you go from WebP to PNG no background color is involved: the form hides the color picker automatically, and the quality slider with it, because PNG is lossless and has no quality setting.

In the tool's own terms, WebP to PNG for a logo with transparency is not a skip, needs no flattening and is not lossy. That last part means whatever you see in the WebP is saved in the PNG exactly, with no new loss. It also means any softness already baked into the WebP stays there.

Steps

  1. Open the Image format converter and add the logo file, for example logo.webp.
  2. Choose PNG. The quality slider and the background color field disappear.
  3. Look at the preview: transparent areas show the page behind them, not a white box.
  4. Download the file. It will be called logo.png.

Why the PNG is bigger

WebP usually compresses with some loss, while PNG saves every pixel literally, so a bigger file is normal. The tool shows the real percentage in the file's row instead of hiding it. For a simple logo with few colors the increase is modest; for a cut-out photograph it can be large.

If the logo is far bigger in pixels than it needs to be, say 3000 pixels wide for a logo that will sit small at the top of an invoice, shrink it with the Image resizer after converting. That cuts the size more than anything else and keeps the transparency.

Check before you send it

  • Place the logo in the target program over a dark background and make sure the edges are clean.
  • Keep the original WebP too: it is the lighter file for your website.
  • If the designer has the source file, exporting PNG from it gives the cleanest result of all.

Common questions

The logo came out with a white background. Why?

Check that you picked PNG and not JPEG, since only JPEG fills transparency with a color. If the background is white in the WebP itself, it was never transparent.

Can I convert several logos at once?

Yes, up to 30 files. A Download all button bundles them into one ZIP once two or more are ready.
