How do I make a PDF lookbook where every photo fills its page edge to edge with no white frame?
Choose page fits the image and set the margin to 0. Every page then takes the exact proportions of its photo, so nothing is cropped and no white frame appears. If every page must be A4, the alternative is fill and crop, accepting a small trim at the edges.
Where the white frame comes from
An A4 page has a fixed shape and lookbook photos rarely match it. A 1600 × 1200 px product shot is 4 to 3, while A4 landscape is about 1.41 to 1. With fit inside and no margin, the photo is drawn 793.71 pt wide on a page 841.89 pt wide, leaving a white band of 24.09 pt on each side. That band is not a margin you can switch off; it is the difference in shape between the photo and the paper.
The fix: let the page follow the photo
In Images to PDF, open Page size and pick the last option, Page fits the image. The orientation and fit mode controls disappear because they no longer apply, and the resolution field appears. Set the margin to 0 and the photo is drawn corner to corner, so the page surface is the photo itself.
The plan line changes to say each page will be the size of its own image at the DPI you entered. A lookbook can mix landscape and portrait shots, and each page takes its own photo's shape, which is perfectly normal for a file people flick through on screen.
What DPI does here
DPI does not change the pixels or the quality; it only sets the physical page size. The 1600 × 1200 photo at 150 DPI becomes a 768 × 576 pt page, about 271 × 203 mm. At 96 DPI it becomes 1200 × 900 pt, about 423 × 317 mm. Same image both times, but a viewer shows the first at roughly A4 scale and the second much larger.
For a lookbook viewed on phones or shared in chats, the suggested 150 works well. If your photos come in very different sizes, bring them to one width first with the Image resizer so the pages feel consistent as people swipe.
When it has to be A4
- Some printers or clients want uniform A4 pages. Then choose A4, fill and crop, and a 0 margin.
- The 1600 × 1200 photo on A4 landscape is drawn 631.42 pt tall on a page 595.28 pt tall, so about 18 pt is trimmed from the top and the same from the bottom.
- The tool reports how many pages were cropped, so check that no product name or logo sits near a trimmed edge.
- If any trim is unacceptable, edit the image itself to A4 proportions before converting.
A finishing touch for the lookbook
Put the cover image first, then products grouped by category, and end with an image carrying your contact number or a QR code for your store. Every image becomes a page, so design the cover and closing images in whatever app you like and add them to the list like any other photo.
Common questions
Does page fits the image reduce quality?
No. The image is embedded as it is; DPI only sets the page size.
Why did I get a page too large error?
With a huge image and a low DPI a page side can exceed 14400 pt. Raise the DPI and the page shrinks.
Does the background color show with a 0 margin?
Not with JPEG photos, since the image covers the whole page. It only shows behind transparent parts of a PNG.
