Is a signature designed as one image in Canva better than an HTML signature?

Usually not. A single image looks exactly as designed when it shows, but many email programs block external images until the recipient allows them, so the space where your signature should be may be empty. And a phone number or email inside a picture cannot be tapped or copied. A text-based signature keeps your details readable and clickable at all times, and you can keep the designed touch in a small logo beside it.

What the customer loses with an image signature

  • Visibility: if the recipient's program blocks images, the whole signature disappears, not just the logo.
  • Tap to call: a number inside an image is just drawing, so it will not open the dialler on a phone.
  • Copying: the customer cannot select and copy your email address and has to type it letter by letter, possibly wrongly.
  • Plain text: a message read as plain text carries no image at all, so it arrives unsigned.
  • Search: if a customer searches their mailbox for your phone number to find your email, a number drawn inside a picture is not text a search can match.

There is a practical cost too: a fully designed image is usually heavier than a small logo, and every recipient downloads it with every email.

How a text signature behaves in the same situation

We built an Arabic signature in the Email signature builder for سارة العتيبي with +966 50 123 4567 and a logo from https://example.com/logo.png. The code puts the logo in its own cell, 64 pixels wide, the name as bold coloured text, and the number as text carrying the call link tel:+966501234567. If the logo is blocked, the other cell is untouched, so the customer reads your name and taps your number. The image's alternative text is deliberately empty, so no stray word or file name appears in its place.

The plain-text version of the same signature is the name, a blank line, then the number. No picture, but no lost information either.

Keep the design in the logo

That does not make your Canva design useless. Take only its visual element: the logo or symbol, in a roughly square shape. Export it as a small image, lighten it with the Image compressor, upload it to your website, and put its address in the logo field. Pick the accent colour from your design too, so the text signature reads as part of your brand rather than something separate.

  1. Design only the logo in Canva, not the whole signature.
  2. Type your name, title, number and email into the tool's fields as ordinary text.
  3. Choose an accent colour that matches your design, and Tahoma if the signature contains Arabic.
  4. Send yourself a test email, then open it once with image loading turned off if your program allows it, and check that everything that matters is still there.

When an image is fine

If the image adds something without carrying essential information, such as a logo or the badge of an exhibition you are attending, it is fine beside the text. The rule: everything a customer needs to reach you must be text. The rest is decoration, and it does not matter if decoration is sometimes blocked.

Common questions

Can I put a full signature image in the logo field?

The logo field accepts any http or https image address, but shows it 64 pixels wide, so a signature designed as a wide image would appear tiny and unreadable.

Can I upload my Canva file straight into the tool?

No. The tool hosts no files; the image needs an online address that you provide.
