How do I make a QR code on my shop door that dials our 920 unified number?

Choose the 'Phone number' type and type the number as you advertise it, such as 920 000 000. The tool removes spaces, dashes and brackets and builds a tel: code; scanning opens the dialler with the number filled in, and the call starts only when the customer presses call.

Why a code on the door

The door is where customers stand when the shop is closed, or when they want to ask about an order before coming in. Typing a nine-digit number while standing at the glass with their bags invites mistakes. A call code cuts that to one scan and one tap, and the number printed next to it covers anyone who prefers the usual way.

What goes into the code

We typed 920 000 000 with spaces into the tool, and it stored this:

tel:920000000

The content is only 13 bytes, and the symbol is the smallest size the QR specification allows, 21 modules wide. That means big squares that can be read from further away than a denser code at the same printed size, a real advantage for a door sticker that people scan while standing.

The steps

  1. Open the QR code generator and choose 'Phone number'.
  2. Type the number. Spaces, dashes, dots and brackets are accepted and removed; letters and words are rejected, and the number must have 3 to 20 digits.
  3. Check the tel: line in the stored-content box.
  4. Pick Q if the sticker is outside and exposed to sun and dust, and download SVG.
  5. Print the same number in writing under the code, and test the scan with two phones before fixing it in place.

Unified number or mobile?

  • A unified number usually works only from inside the Kingdom, which suits a shop door used by local customers.
  • If your visitors come from abroad, such as a shop in a tourist area, add a second code for a mobile number in international form, like +966 50 123 4567, which stores tel:+966501234567 at 17 bytes.
  • Do not put two numbers in one code; the format holds a single number.

Common questions

Does the code call automatically when scanned?

No. It opens the dialler with the number ready, and the customer decides whether to call.

Does it work on tablets without a SIM?

The tool only builds the code; what happens after the scan depends on the device. A device without calling may just show the number or suggest another calling app.
