How do I move a whole section, pages 10 to 14, to the start of the file and keep them in order?

Why you start from the last page of the section

The move-to-start button puts a page in position 1 and pushes everything that was ahead of it back a step. Start with page 10, then 11, then 12, and each new page takes position 1 and pushes the previous one back, so the section ends up reversed: 14, 13, 12, 11, 10. Start from the end of the section instead, and every page you press settles in front of the one you pressed before, giving the right order.

The steps

1. Open Reorder PDF pages and choose the file.
2. Scroll to page 14 and press “Move page 14 to start”.
3. Scroll to page 13, which is still close to where it was, and press the same first button. Repeat for 12, then 11, then 10.
4. Look at the “New order” line: it should begin 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, then 1.
5. Press “Download in new order”.

Moving to the end works the other way round

To move a section to the back of the file, start from its first page and press move to end on 10, then 11, up to 14. Each page joins the back of the line behind the one before it, so the section arrives at the end in order. An easy rule to remember: to the start from the section's end, to the end from its start.

If the section is very long

• For a section of five or ten pages, the buttons are quick enough.
• For a 50-page section, think in reverse: it may be easier to send the few pages before it to the end than to move all fifty to the start.
• If you need the section as a separate file rather than at the front of this one, extract it with Split PDF by typing 10-14.
