How to rotate PDF pages

A scanned file with one page upside down, or a wide table that shows up sideways. Turning it in a viewer saves nothing, so it comes back wrong for your customer. Here you rotate the pages and save the orientation inside the file.

All pages or some of them

You can rotate the whole file at once, or pick particular pages by clicking them or typing their numbers, such as 1-3, 5. This matters for scanned files where only one page is upside down.

How to do it

  1. Open the Rotate PDF pages tool and choose a PDF. Its pages appear as thumbnails.
  2. Pick “All pages”, or pick “Selected pages” and select the pages.
  3. Press “Right 90°”, “Left 90°” or “180°”. The thumbnails turn at once and a summary lists pages and angles.
  4. Press “Download rotated PDF”. Your original file stays as it is.
Worked example

A 3-page file with no rotation.

You select page 2 and press “Right 90°” twice, and it shows +180°.

In the exported file the rotation value is 0 for page 1, 180 for page 2 and 0 for page 3.

A page that was already at 90 with 90 added becomes 180.

Why doesn't the quality drop?

The tool does not redraw the page content. It adds your angle to the rotation value stored for each page, and viewers show the page at that angle. So text stays selectable text, and images keep their original resolution.

Limits to know

  • Right angles only: 90, 180 and 270. It does not do an angle like 45 degrees, and does not straighten slightly tilted scans.
  • Tested limits: one file up to 100 MB and 500 pages.
  • Password-protected or encrypted files are refused, and the tool does not bypass protection.
  • Saving the file again invalidates any digital signature in it, and the tool warns you if it finds one.

If the problem is the order of the pages rather than their direction, the right tool is Reorder PDF pages. A sideways photo outside a PDF is fixed with the Image rotator and flipper tool.

Common questions

Why does the page come back sideways after I turned it in my viewer?

Most viewers only turn the page on screen and do not save it in the file. This tool saves the orientation inside the file itself.

Is my file uploaded?

No, rotation happens inside your browser.

Can I rotate different pages by different angles?

Yes. Select one group and rotate it, then select another group and rotate it by a different angle before downloading.
