Does removing tatweel change anything else in my text, like diacritics, numbers or English words?
No. The tool deletes exactly one character, the kashida or tatweel (U+0640), and copies everything else through unchanged: letters, diacritics, digits, punctuation, spaces and English text. If a tatweel carries a vowel mark, the tool keeps it by default so the mark is not left floating. The processing happens in your browser, so the text is never uploaded.
A test on mixed text
The best way to be sure is to try text with a bit of everything. I tested a line with the word «مرحبا» carrying a fatha, a sukun and tanwin, with two tatweels after the ha, then the number 150, then SAR, an Arabic comma, then Welcome and an exclamation mark.
- Only the two tatweels were removed: «Tatweel found» 2, «Tatweel removed» 2, «Words affected» 1.
- The fatha and sukun on «مَرْ» stayed, and the tanwin on the ba stayed in place: «مَرْحبًا».
- The number 150, SAR, the Arabic comma, Welcome and the exclamation mark came out exactly as they went in.
The one case that needs your attention: a tatweel carrying a mark
In grammar lessons and vowel charts, a tatweel is sometimes written on its own just to carry a mark, for instance «تنوين الفتح» followed by a tatweel with fathatan on it, to show the reader what the mark looks like. Delete that tatweel and the mark has no letter to sit on, so the browser parks it on whatever comes before and the text looks broken.
So the tool detects every tatweel immediately followed by a mark and gives you three choices under «A tatweel followed by a diacritic». The same example with each choice:
- «Keep it so the mark keeps its carrier (default)»: 0 removed; the tatweel and the tanwin stay, and a note says one tatweel was kept because it carries a diacritic.
- «Remove it; the mark moves onto the character before»: 1 removed, and the tanwin is left on its own after the space.
- «Remove it together with the mark it carries»: the tatweel and its tanwin both go, and a note reports how many diacritics were removed.
In every case a note shows how many places have a tatweel carrying a mark, so you can check the option before you copy. The tool never decides for you silently.
What the tool deliberately does not do
- It does not remove diacritics from the text. There is a separate tool for that: Arabic diacritic remover.
- It does not fold letters: hamza forms, ta marbuta and alef maksura stay as you wrote them.
- It does not convert Arabic-Indic digits to Western ones or back, and it does not touch spaces.
And where does your text go?
Nowhere. The removal happens inside your browser; the tatweel is one known character and finding it needs no server. The text is not uploaded or stored, copy puts the result on your own clipboard, and download builds text-without-tatweel.txt directly on your device.
- Open the Arabic tatweel remover and paste your text.
- Leave «Remove every tatweel» and the default carrier option.
- Check the counters and notes, then copy the result.
Common questions
Could the tool remove an underscore or a hyphen?
No. The underscore and the hyphen are different characters from the tatweel and are never touched.
Do spaces change after removal?
No. The tatweel sits inside a word, so removing it neither adds nor deletes a space.
