Are my shipment sizes and weights sent anywhere when I use the volumetric weight calculator?
No. The whole calculation runs inside your browser on your device, the numbers you type are not uploaded to a server, and the tool is not linked to any carrier or account. A fixed line under the result says exactly that: calculated in your browser, nothing is sent.
Why shipping numbers can be worth keeping private
Carton sizes look harmless, but together they say more than you might think: how big your orders are, how many cartons come in with each import, what your supplier's goods weigh, and sometimes the terms of your carrier contract, through the divisor you use. A seller working out a 40-carton shipment from a new supplier does not want those figures going somewhere unknown.
What actually happens when you calculate
Say you enter a 40 × 30 × 20 cm carton weighing 3 kg with 6000 as an example divisor. Your browser works out the volume, 24,000 cm³, the volumetric weight, 4 kg (8.82 lb), and the chargeable weight, 4 kg, and shows them immediately. Those numbers do not go anywhere.
- You can check this yourself: once the page has loaded, disconnect from the internet and change the numbers. The result still updates, because the calculation needs no server.
- Nothing is kept between visits: when you come back, the tool starts from its built-in example, not from your last figures.
- Copy result copies the text to your own device's clipboard, and you decide where to paste it.
The other side: what the tool cannot do
Not being linked to any carrier also means it cannot book a shipment, fetch a price, know your account's divisor or check an invoice. It is a specialised calculator: it works out volumetric and chargeable weight from your numbers and leaves the rest to you. For a real price you need your carrier's site or account, where that carrier's own privacy policy applies.
Practical tips on a shared device
- If you use the Volumetric shipping-weight calculator on a shop or warehouse computer, close the tab when you finish so the next person does not see your last figures.
- Mind what you copied: the clipboard can hold the text until you copy something else.
- If you send dimensions to a customer or forwarder, put them in a clear document such as a packing list from the Packing-list generator, rather than scattered chat messages.
- If you issue an invoice with shipping charges using the Basic invoice generator, the figures you type there also stay in your browser.
Common questions
Do I need an account or to sign in?
No, the tool works straight away without an account.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in the phone's browser, and the calculation runs on the phone itself.
Does the tool know which carrier I use?
No, and it does not ask. The divisor you choose is all it knows.
