Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Type the value in the bytes box.
- Read the result in mebibytes as you type, and pick the precision you need.
- Swap the direction to convert back, or copy the result.
How it is calculated
MiB = B × 9.536743164e-7
Multiply the value in bytes by 9.536743164e-7 to get mebibytes.
Example
To convert 25 B to mebibytes: 25 × 9.536743164e-7 = 0.0000238419 MiB.

About the units
- Byte
- A unit of storage equal to exactly 8 bits (an octet in IEC 80000-13), typically enough to store one Latin character.
- Mebibyte
- A binary unit equal to exactly 2^20 = 1,048,576 bytes, which is 1024 kibibytes.
Limits and caveats
- Results are rounded for display and computed with the browser's floating point precision (about 15 significant digits).
- Both unit factors are exact by their official definitions.
Questions about this tool
How many mebibytes are in one byte?
1 B = 9.53674e-7 MiB exactly.
How do I convert bytes to mebibytes?
Use MiB = B × 9.536743164e-7. For example, 25 B = 0.0000238419 MiB.
How many bytes are in one mebibyte?
1 MiB = 1,048,580 B.
Why does a 1 TB drive show about 931 GB on my computer?
Drive makers count 1 TB as 10^12 bytes, while Windows divides by 2^30 and labels the result GB even though it is really GiB. So 10^12 ÷ 1,073,741,824 gives about 931.32, and no space is missing.
What is the difference between a kilobyte and a kibibyte?
A kilobyte (kB) is a decimal unit of 1000 bytes and a kibibyte (KiB) is a binary unit of 1024 bytes. The same split applies to mega and mebi, giga and gibi, and the gap grows at each step.
