How it is calculated
Fee = the larger of (amount × fee %) and the minimum fee. Interest = amount × APR ÷ 365 × days. Annualised cost = (cost ÷ amount) × 365 ÷ days.
Example
Inputs: Cash amount = 1,000, Cash advance fee = 3 %, Minimum fee = 10, Cash advance APR = 30 %, Days until repaid = 30 days. Result: Total cost: 54.66; Cash advance fee: 30.00; Interest: 24.66.
Limits and caveats
- Assumes simple daily interest from the withdrawal day and one full repayment.
- The ATM owner or another bank may add fees not counted here.
Questions about this tool
Is there a grace period on cash advances?
On most cards no; interest starts on the day of the withdrawal even if you pay the statement on time.
Why is the annualised cost so high?
The fee is charged once over a short time, so turning it into a yearly rate multiplies it.
What is the minimum fee?
If the percent on a small amount comes out lower, the bank charges this minimum instead.
