How to use it
- Enter current balance, bills and payments due before payday, amount you want to save and days until payday.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Free to spend = balance − bills still due − saving. Daily limit = free to spend ÷ days until payday, and weekly limit = daily × 7. If free to spend is negative the limit is zero.
Example
Inputs: Current balance = 4,000, Bills and payments due before payday = 1,200, Amount you want to save = 500, Days until payday = 12 days. Result: Daily spending limit: 191.67; Weekly spending limit: 1,341.67; Free to spend until payday: 2,300.00.
Limits and caveats
- The money is spread evenly over the days, while real spending differs between weekdays and weekends.
- The tool does not know your bill dates, so enter everything that leaves before payday, including automatic subscriptions.
Questions about this tool
Do I count payday itself?
No, enter the days you will spend before the salary arrives. If pay lands on the morning of day 10, enter 9 or 10 depending on your habits.
What if I see a shortfall?
Look at the saving amount first, then find a bill you can move or a cost you can skip until payday.
Do fuel and groceries come out of the daily limit?
Yes, the daily limit is for all variable spending. Put rent and loan payments in the bills field.
