How to use it
- Enter share price, dividend per share per payment, payment frequency and number of shares (optional).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Annual dividend per share = dividend per payment × payments per year. Yield = annual dividend ÷ share price × 100. Annual income = annual dividend × number of shares.
Example
Inputs: Share price = 50, Dividend per share per payment = 0.5, Payment frequency = Quarterly (4 per year), Number of shares (optional) = 100 shares. Result: Dividend yield: 4%; Annual dividend per share: 2; Annual income from your shares: 200.00.
Limits and caveats
- It assumes the current dividend repeats at the same amount all year.
- Taxes, zakat and custody fees are not deducted.
Questions about this tool
Is a higher yield always better?
Not always. A yield can rise because the share price fell on bad news, and the dividend may be cut later.
Should I use my purchase price or the current price?
Published yields use the current price. If you enter your purchase price you get the yield on your own cost.
Where do I find the dividend amount and frequency?
In the company announcements on the exchange website or its investor relations page. Many companies pay quarterly or twice a year.
