Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter present value, payment per period, annual interest rate, term, payment and compounding frequency and payment timing.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

i = r/n, N = years × n. FV = PV × (1+i)^N + PMT × ((1+i)^N − 1) / i, with the payment part multiplied by (1+i) for start-of-period payments.

Example

Inputs: Present value = 10,000 your currency, Payment per period = 500 your currency, Annual interest rate = 6 %, Term = 10 years, Payment and compounding frequency = Monthly. Result: Future value: 100,133.64; Total paid in: 70,000.00; Total interest: 30,133.64.

Limits and caveats

  • Assumes payments and compounding share the same frequency at a fixed rate.
  • Taxes, fees and rising payments are not modelled.

Questions about this tool

What is the difference between start and end timing?

Paying at the start gives each payment one extra period of interest, so the payment part grows by a factor of (1+i).

Can the payment be zero?

Yes. The result is then plain compound interest on the present value.

How is it different from the compound interest calculator?

This one adds regular payments and their timing; the compound interest calculator covers a single sum with a yearly table.
