How to use it
- Type the value in the gigabits box.
- Read the result in gigabytes as you type, and pick the precision you need.
- Swap the direction to convert back, or copy the result.
How it is calculated
GB = Gbit × 0.125
Multiply the value in gigabits by 0.125 to get gigabytes.
Example
To convert 25 Gbit to gigabytes: 25 × 0.125 = 3.125 GB.
Conversion table
| Gigabits (Gbit) | Gigabytes (GB) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0.125 |
| 2 | 0.25 |
| 3 | 0.375 |
| 5 | 0.625 |
| 10 | 1.25 |
| 20 | 2.5 |
| 25 | 3.125 |
| 50 | 6.25 |
| 100 | 12.5 |
| 250 | 31.25 |
| 500 | 62.5 |
| 1,000 | 125 |
About the units
- Gigabit
- A decimal unit equal to exactly 10^9 bits, which is 125,000,000 bytes.
- Gigabyte
- A decimal unit equal to exactly 10^9 bytes, the unit used by drive makers and mobile data plans.
Limits and caveats
- Results are rounded for display and computed with the browser's floating point precision (about 15 significant digits).
- Both unit factors are exact by their official definitions.
Questions about this tool
How many gigabytes are in one gigabit?
1 Gbit = 0.125 GB exactly.
How do I convert gigabits to gigabytes?
Use GB = Gbit × 0.125. For example, 25 Gbit = 3.125 GB.
How many gigabits are in one gigabyte?
1 GB = 8 Gbit.
Why does a 1 TB drive show about 931 GB on my computer?
Drive makers count 1 TB as 10^12 bytes, while Windows divides by 2^30 and labels the result GB even though it is really GiB. So 10^12 ÷ 1,073,741,824 gives about 931.32, and no space is missing.
What is the difference between a kilobyte and a kibibyte?
A kilobyte (kB) is a decimal unit of 1000 bytes and a kibibyte (KiB) is a binary unit of 1024 bytes. The same split applies to mega and mebi, giga and gibi, and the gap grows at each step.
