How to use it

  1. Type the value in the gigabytes box.
  2. Read the result in gigabits as you type, and pick the precision you need.
  3. Swap the direction to convert back, or copy the result.

How it is calculated

Gbit = GB × 8

Multiply the value in gigabytes by 8 to get gigabits.

Example

To convert 25 GB to gigabits: 25 × 8 = 200 Gbit.

Questions about this tool

How many gigabits are in one gigabyte?

1 GB = 8 Gbit exactly.

How do I convert gigabytes to gigabits?

Use Gbit = GB × 8. For example, 25 GB = 200 Gbit.

How many gigabytes are in one gigabit?

1 Gbit = 0.125 GB.

Why does a 1 TB drive show about 931 GB on my computer?

Drive makers count 1 TB as 10^12 bytes, while Windows divides by 2^30 and labels the result GB even though it is really GiB. So 10^12 ÷ 1,073,741,824 gives about 931.32, and no space is missing.

What is the difference between a kilobyte and a kibibyte?

A kilobyte (kB) is a decimal unit of 1000 bytes and a kibibyte (KiB) is a binary unit of 1024 bytes. The same split applies to mega and mebi, giga and gibi, and the gap grows at each step.
