How it is calculated
Days = difference between the two day numbers after converting each date with Umm al-Qura. Years, months and days use subtraction, borrowing the length of the Hijri month before the second date's month.
Example
Inputs: Start day = 1, Start month = 1. Muharram, Start year = 1,446 AH, End day = 1, End month = 1. Muharram. Result: Days between: 354 days; Hijri years: 1; Months: 0.
Limits and caveats
- Uses Umm al-Qura from 1300 to 1600 AH.
- The day count excludes the start day; add one if you want to count both ends.
Questions about this tool
Is the start day counted?
No, the tool gives the difference between the dates, so 1 to 2 Ramadan is one day.
How are months counted when month lengths differ?
When the end day is smaller than the start day, the real Umm al-Qura length of the previous Hijri month, 29 or 30 days, is borrowed.
Does the order of the dates matter?
No, the tool returns the same gap whichever date comes first.
