Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Type the value in the kibibytes box.
  2. Read the result in kilobytes as you type, and pick the precision you need.
  3. Swap the direction to convert back, or copy the result.

How it is calculated

kB = KiB × 1.024

Multiply the value in kibibytes by 1.024 to get kilobytes.

Example

To convert 25 KiB to kilobytes: 25 × 1.024 = 25.6 kB.

About the units

Kibibyte
A binary (IEC prefix) unit equal to exactly 2^10 = 1024 bytes. Many programs display it as KB.
Kilobyte
A decimal (SI prefix) unit equal to exactly 1000 bytes. Not the same as the binary kibibyte, which is 1024 bytes.

Limits and caveats

  • Results are rounded for display and computed with the browser's floating point precision (about 15 significant digits).
  • Both unit factors are exact by their official definitions.

Questions about this tool

How many kilobytes are in one kibibyte?

1 KiB = 1.024 kB exactly.

How do I convert kibibytes to kilobytes?

Use kB = KiB × 1.024. For example, 25 KiB = 25.6 kB.

How many kibibytes are in one kilobyte?

1 kB = 0.976563 KiB.

Why does a 1 TB drive show about 931 GB on my computer?

Drive makers count 1 TB as 10^12 bytes, while Windows divides by 2^30 and labels the result GB even though it is really GiB. So 10^12 ÷ 1,073,741,824 gives about 931.32, and no space is missing.

What is the difference between a kilobyte and a kibibyte?

A kilobyte (kB) is a decimal unit of 1000 bytes and a kibibyte (KiB) is a binary unit of 1024 bytes. The same split applies to mega and mebi, giga and gibi, and the gap grows at each step.
