How to use it

  1. Enter number and gender of the counted noun.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

The number is split into three-digit groups (units, thousands, millions, billions, trillions) joined with و from the largest. Numbers 3 to 10 take the opposite gender of the counted noun, and a scale word is plural after 3 to 10 (آلاف), singular accusative after 11 to 99 (ألفًا) and singular genitive after round hundreds (ألف).

Example

Inputs: Number = 1250, Gender of the counted noun = Masculine. Result: In words: ألف ومئتان وخمسون; Feminine form: ألف ومئتان وخمسون; Formatted number: 1,250.

Limits and caveats

  • Words are in the nominative case, the form used for tafqeet and reading a number on its own.
  • Whole numbers up to 15 digits; for amounts with decimals use the currency tafqeet tools.

Questions about this tool

When should I choose feminine?

Choose feminine when the counted noun is feminine, such as ورقة. Then 3 becomes ثلاث and 18 becomes ثماني عشرة; hundreds and thousands do not change.

Why is it ألفًا sometimes and آلاف other times?

After 3 to 10 the noun is plural (ثلاثة آلاف), after 11 to 99 singular accusative (أحد عشر ألفًا), and after hundreds singular genitive (مئة ألف).

Are مئة and مائة both correct?

Yes, it is the same word. مئة is the modern spelling that language academies recommend; مائة is the older, still common spelling.
