How it is calculated

It finds 1 Ramadan inside the Gregorian year in the Umm al-Qura table. End = 1 Shawwal - 1 day, length 29 or 30 days, and Eid al-Fitr = 1 Shawwal.

Example

Inputs: Gregorian year = 2,026. Result: First day of Ramadan: Wednesday, 18 February 2026 (2026-02-18); Hijri year: 1447 AH; Last day of Ramadan: Thursday, 19 March 2026 (2026-03-19).

Limits and caveats

  • Dates come from Umm al-Qura; fasting officially starts with the sighting announcement and can differ by a day.
  • Countries that follow local sighting may start Ramadan on a different day.
