How to use it
- Enter first part, second part and third part (optional).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Share of each part = part ÷ sum of parts × 100. For 3:5 the sum is 8, so 3 ÷ 8 = 37.5% and 5 ÷ 8 = 62.5%. First as a percent of second = 3 ÷ 5 × 100 = 60%.
Example
Inputs: First part = 3, Second part = 5. Result: First part share of total: 37.5%; Second part share of total: 62.5%; First part as a percent of the second: 60%.
Limits and caveats
- Shares are rounded for display, so in some cases they add up to 99.9999% or 100.0001%.
Questions about this tool
How do I turn the ratio 2:3 into percentages?
The total is 5, so the first part is 2 ÷ 5 = 40% and the second is 3 ÷ 5 = 60%.
What is the difference between share of total and part-to-part percent?
For 1:4 the first part is 20% of the total, but 25% of the second part, because the second compares it with the other part alone.
Can I use decimals in the ratio?
Yes. 1.5:2.5 gives 37.5% and 62.5%, the same as 3:5.
