How to use it
- Enter semicolon csv, change decimal commas to points and trim spaces around each cell.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Lines are split at ; respecting quoted cells, then written with commas, quoting any cell that holds a comma. With the option on, 3,5 becomes 3.5 and 1.234,5 becomes 1234.5.
Example
Inputs: Change decimal commas to points = yes, Trim spaces around each cell = no. Result: Comma CSV: product, price, qty Tea,12.5,3 Coffee,18,2; Rows: 3; Columns: 3.
product;price;qty Tea;12,5;3 Coffee;18;2
product,price,qty Tea,12.5,3 Coffee,18,2
Limits and caveats
- Only numbers with one decimal comma are changed; a value like 1.234 with no comma is left alone because it may be a decimal or a thousands group.
- Dates and currency in local formats are left unchanged.
Questions about this tool
Why does Excel save CSV with semicolons?
In regional settings that use a decimal comma, ; is the list separator, so Excel uses it in CSV.
Will it change my numbers without asking?
No. Decimal conversion is an option; turn it off and numbers stay as they are, quoted.
What about semicolons inside text?
They stay in the cell as they are and need no quotes in comma CSV.
