How it is calculated
The amount is split into Saudi riyals and halalas (1 riyal = 100 halalas). Each part is written in words, and the counted noun takes the form set by the last two digits: 1 ريال واحد, 2 ريالان, 3 to 10 ريالات, 11 to 99 ريالًا, and round hundreds and thousands ريال.
Example
Inputs: Amount in SAR = 1250.50. Result: Amount in Arabic words: ألف ومئتان وخمسون ريالًا سعوديًا وخمسون هللة; Cheque wording: فقط ألف ومئتان وخمسون ريالًا سعوديًا وخمسون هللة لا غير; Amount in English: One thousand two hundred fifty Saudi riyals and fifty halalas.
Limits and caveats
- For amounts above 100 that end in 1 or 2, such as 101, we follow the common tafqeet form «مئة وواحد ريال».
- We spell مئة the modern way; مائة is the older spelling of the same word. Up to 15 digits before the decimal point and 2 after it.
Questions about this tool
How many halalas are in a Saudi riyal?
One riyal is 100 halalas, so the tool takes two decimals: 12.5 means 12 riyals and 50 halalas.
Why ثلاث هللات without ة?
هللة is feminine, and numbers 3 to 10 take the opposite gender, so it is ثلاث هللات but ثلاثة ريالات.
How do I write the amount on a cheque?
Copy the cheque wording that starts with فقط and ends with لا غير; it stops words being added after the amount.
