How it is calculated
The amount is split into UAE dirhams and fils (1 dirham = 100 fils). Each part is written in words, and the counted noun takes the form set by the last two digits: 1 درهم واحد, 2 درهمان, 3 to 10 دراهم, 11 to 99 درهمًا, and round hundreds and thousands درهم.
Example
Inputs: Amount in AED = 15.75. Result: Amount in Arabic words: خمسة عشر درهمًا إماراتيًا وخمسة وسبعون فلسًا; Cheque wording: فقط خمسة عشر درهمًا إماراتيًا وخمسة وسبعون فلسًا لا غير; Amount in English: Fifteen UAE dirhams and seventy-five fils.
Limits and caveats
- For amounts above 100 that end in 1 or 2, such as 101, we follow the common tafqeet form «مئة وواحد درهم».
- We spell مئة the modern way; مائة is the older spelling of the same word. Up to 15 digits before the decimal point and 2 after it.
Questions about this tool
How many fils are in a UAE dirham?
One dirham is 100 fils, so 15.75 means 15 dirhams and 75 fils.
What plural of فلس is used?
فلوس after 3 to 10, as in خمسة فلوس; from 11 up the singular accusative is used: خمسة عشر فلسًا.
Why دراهم إماراتية and not إماراتيين?
Plurals of non-human nouns take a feminine singular adjective, so it is ثلاثة دراهم إماراتية.
