Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.
How to use it
- Enter timecode hh:mm:ss:ff and frame rate.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Frames = (hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds) × nominal rate + frames. For drop-frame subtract 2 (4 at 59.94) for every minute except each tenth minute. Real time = frames ÷ true rate, e.g. 30000/1001.
Example
Inputs: Timecode HH:MM:SS:FF = 01:00:00:00, Frame rate = 25 fps (PAL). Result: Frame count: 90,000; Real time in seconds: 3,600.
01:00:00:00
01:00:00.000
Limits and caveats
- Hours run from 00 to 23 as in SMPTE timecode, which wraps back to zero after 24 hours.
- 23.976 is counted at 24 with no dropped labels, as editing software normally does.
- Interlaced fields are not counted separately.
Questions about this tool
What does the semicolon in 00:01:00;02 mean?
It usually marks drop-frame timecode. The tool accepts colons or a semicolon; what matters is the frame rate you choose.
Why does 29.97 drop-frame skip numbers?
The video runs slightly slower than 30 fps, so labels 0 and 1 are skipped at the start of each minute except every tenth, keeping the timecode close to clock time. No pictures are removed.
How many frames are in one hour at 25 fps?
3600 × 25 = 90,000 frames.
