Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter encoded text.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Each line length comes from its first character (code minus 32); every 4 characters give four 6-bit values (code minus 32) combined into 3 bytes, and only the stated number of bytes is kept.

Example

Result: Decoded text: Cat; Bytes: 3; File name: cat.txt.

begin 644 cat.txt
#0V%T
`
end
Cat

Limits and caveats

  • Only the first begin block is decoded when the text holds several files.
  • Binary content is shown as hex bytes and is not saved as a file.

Questions about this tool

Do I need the begin and end lines?

No. Data lines alone work, but the header gives you the file name and mode.

Is a space accepted instead of ` for zero?

Yes. Both the space and ` are read as zero.

Why does a short line give an error?

Its first character promises more bytes than the line holds; the line was probably cut when copied.
