ROT47 encoder and decoder

ROT47 works like ROT13 but also hides digits and symbols, and is used in puzzles and spoiler hiding. It is a puzzle cipher, not protection.

Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter text.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

For each character code c from 33 (!) to 126 (~): result = 33 + ((c - 33 + 47) mod 94). Spaces and other characters are unchanged.

Example

Result: ROT47 result: %96 "F:4< qC@H? u@I yF>AD ~G6C %96 {2KJ s@8]; Characters rotated: 36.

The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog.
%96 "F:4< qC@H? u@I yF>AD ~G6C %96 {2KJ s@8]

Limits and caveats

  • This is a puzzle and teaching cipher that is easy to break, so never use it to protect passwords or sensitive data.
  • Only visible ASCII characters rotate; spaces and Arabic letters stay the same.

Questions about this tool

What is the difference between ROT13 and ROT47?

ROT13 changes letters only, while ROT47 rotates 94 characters including digits and punctuation.

How do I decode ROT47?

Paste it into the same tool. Running ROT47 twice restores the text because 47 is half of 94.

Do spaces change?

No. The space is code 32, outside the 33 to 126 range, so it stays as it is.
